Venice Biennale
An exploration of the aperture
In collaboration with photographer Brett Boardman and graphic designer Mark Gowing, Andrew Burns Architecture’s shortlisted proposal for the 2014 Venice Biennale explored the role and diversity of ‘openings’ in Australian architecture. Connection to landscape is a central element of Australian architecture and identity and openings articulate this connection. Staged during the construction of the new Australian pavilion, the proposal incorporated a temporary pavilion, fabricated from aluminium plate and able to be packed into a small volume.
