Opera House Visitor Centre
In the lee of the forecourt
Invited by the Opera House Trust to prepare design studies for a new visitor and information centre, Andrew Burns Architecture proposed a structure that balanced presence with discretion. Located in the lee of the adjacent apartment building, the building contained a pebble geometry, bisected by rectilinear cuts. The X-type bronze of the exterior references the materiality of the Opera House’s glazing sections, whilst the rectilinear components provided glazed display and interpretation content.
