Reimagined vaults

Reinterpreting the unbuilt vaults from the 1899 design by Fawcett and Ashworth, the proposal created a series of vaults of decreasing span and width, accommodating a variety of spatial arrangements whilst resolving the tapering site geometry. Anchored by a harcourt granite base, the light roof expressed the archetypal arrangement of mass and lightness, made more delicate through suspended catenary lighting that opposed the vault and belied into the spaces.
